The 2018-19 NHL season news

Flames end Golden Knights winning streak

The Calgary Flames ended a four-game losing streak after beating the Golden Knights 6-3, effectively ending their opponents’ six-game winning streak. Matthew Tkachuk scored three times to mark his first NHL hat trick ensuring that the Flames are back at the top of the Pacific Division and the Western Conference, one point above the San Jose Sharks.

After the game, Tkachuk said that their intention is to win the division at the end of the season and it’s not about always chasing the top teams. It’s important to note that Tkachuk scored his first NHL hat trick at the age of 21 years 89 days.

Stanley Cup Playoffs countdown

The 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs start in a month’s time. Apart from the Tampa Bay Lightning who have secured a playoff spot, the first places in the Western Conference and the other four divisions are yet to be decided setting up an interesting last four weeks of the regular season. Here are some of the interesting storylines to watch as we prepare for the Stanley Cup playoffs.

  • Will the Blue Jackets make it to the playoffs?

The Columbus Blue Jackets made some surprise signings at the end of the NHL transfer deadline securing the services of Ryan Dzingel and Matt Duchene both from Ottawa Senators and holding on to their prolific attacker Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky who plays as a goalie. The Blue Jackets have never won a postseason series and are currently tied at number two in the Eastern Conference with Montreal Canadiens (79).

  • Boston Bruins seeking to make history

Though the Tampa Bay Lightning have already won the Eastern Conference and the Atlantic Division the Bruins’ hopes of qualifying for the playoffs are valid. They sit at position two leading third-placed Conference side Toronto Maple Leafs by four points.
